Welcome to our Member Spotlight Series, where we proudly showcase the businesses and individuals making a difference in our Strive community and beyond. Today, we have the pleasure of highlighting Josh Beck, founder of Beck Tech, a provider of software products and development designed to make life, business, and entertainment as easy and organized as possible. Join us as we learn more about what led Josh to starting his business, and what he finds most rewarding about his work.
Tell us a little about your company.
Beck Tech Co. was founded to help start-ups create beautiful software products that prosper human connection. We’re especially versed at enlightening the mystery that is often mobile development to partner with individuals or companies with app ideas to help bring their product to life in a tangible, exceptional, and profitable manner.
What led you to start this company?
What started out as a freelancing gig to provide flexibility to travel has led to a team of consultants around the world ready to support and build exceptional apps and products.
What sets your business apart from your competitors?
We focus on creating visually-striking mobile apps that not only function, but also feel exceptional in a user’s hand. We also believe that a mobile app is an investment and help clients plan with value propositions, monetization strategies, and project timeline/budget from day 1 to increase the likelihood of a positive return.
What is something you wish you’d known when you were just starting your business?
I wish I knew a bit more about taxes. There’s a lot of regulations for a small-business that are easy once you know that they exist but are a little bit of a learning curve at the start.
What is one unexpected way your business has changed so far in your journey?
At first, I just wanted to help with mobile apps but since has transitioned to really supporting startups almost exclusively. And along with that, we’ve started building out a team to support the timelines and needs of a new business. We’ve gathered designers, full-stack developers, and built out tools to support today’s asynchronous remote world.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
I love helping client’s ideas come to life and be distributed around the world. It’s incredible to take a one sentence idea and change that into mobile app that is making money internationally.
What is something you have learned about yourself/the industry since starting your business?
I’ve learned that I really like creating new products more than even programming, graphic design, or publishing mobile apps.
How has being a part of a coworking community affected you and your business?
It’s so helpful to get out of the house, get going, and have a place to focus with likeminded people. This has helped significantly in longevity while working remote and good work-life balance.
If you could have a conversation over coffee with yourself from 5 years ago, what would you say?
I would say, “There’s a point where all this preparation that you do in school and life will actually be useful. You’ll always be learning; but there’ll be times where you can tangibly use what you’ve learned.”
If you had a friend in town, and you could take them to one of your favorite restaurants or spots in your community, where would you take them?
I love HG Suply Co. for a rooftop bar or Halycon for a trendy coffee place.
